Medical indications MRI

Resonance is characterized by very high tissue and spatial resolution, thanks to which even small structures and changes are visible. Medical indications for this examination are presented below.

Central nervous system

  1. neoplastic lesions and tumors of the brain, spinal cord and spinal canal,
  2. demyelinating diseases (e.g. diagnosis of multiple sclerosis – MS),
  3. ischemic changes of the brain and spinal cord, especially in the early period (first day), when these changes are not visible in computed tomography,
  4. degenerative diseases, e.g. Alzheimer’s disease, inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system: viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic,
  5. anomalies and defects of cerebral vessels – aneurysms, vascular malformations – (angio-MR),
  6. imaging diagnostics of the pituitary gland.

The osteoarticular system

  1. joint examinations, e.g. knee, shoulder, hip or ankle joint,
  2. examination of post-traumatic changes (non-invasive assessment of ligaments and tendons, knee meniscus, labrum in the shoulder joint, articular cartilage, presence of fluid in the joint cavity).

Cancers

  1. recognition and assessment of the advancement of neoplastic lesions.

Inflammatory conditions

  1. assessment of inflammation of the bones and soft tissues.

Diagnostics of the abdominal cavity

  1. assessment of diseases of the liver and pancreas,
  2. diagnostics of the pelvic organs, bladder, reproductive organs in women and the prostate gland in men.

Contraindications

Absolute

We do not perform examinations in people who have implanted cochlear implants, metallic elements that cannot be imaged in magnetic resonance imaging, or there is no appropriate documentation that allows us to assess the patient’s safety.

Relative

MR examination may be performed under specific conditions (always to the decision of the doctor supervising the examination, based on medical documentation):

  1. pregnancy < 1 trimester,
  2. claustrophobia,
  3. stents, vascular clips, stent grafts, cardioverter/defibrillator, pacemakers, neurostimulators, orthopedic stabilization, orthodontic appliances, dental implants.
