BioSkaner has received the prestigious EARL 18F Standard 1 and 2 accreditation for the Siemens Biograph mMR PET/MR scanner, recognized by the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM). The center has obtained certification for both standards for the PET/MRI scanner, making it the first in Poland!
The main goal of EARL is to improve nuclear medicine and its practices, as well as to develop scientific initiatives and clinical research projects. PET/MR or PET/CT centers receive accreditation if they meet the requirements outlined in the EANM imaging guidelines. The certificate is issued for a specific scanner.
EARL established the EARL FDG-PET/CT accreditation program, which was launched in July 2010 to help imaging centers meet standard requirements outlined in the guidelines. The accreditation program is approved by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Imaging Group, providing independent quality control and assurance by a fully authorized expert body. In the first quarter of 2022, the 18F accreditation program for PET/MR scanners was initiated. Accreditation is based on a pilot study published by Boellaard et al. This new program will have the same 18F Standard 1 and 2 standards as the current PET/CT accreditation, mainly applicable to clinical studies.
Obtaining accreditation allows for:
➡️ Harmonization of PET scan reconstruction and interpretation (reducing variability in SUV results between institutions) à results can be compared, exchanged, and merged
➡️ Standardization of methods through accurate, repeatable, and quantitative assessment of obtained results from conducted examinations, including patient preparation, scan acquisition, image processing, and analysis
➡️ Ensuring quality in daily clinical practice
