Diagnostics in the fight against civilization diseases

Our PET/CT diagnostic laboratory is equipped with the Discovery 710 scanner by GE, enabling precise and comprehensive examinations. The combination of classic computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) allows us to obtain detailed information on both the structure and metabolism of organs and systems in the patient’s body. The PET/CT examination consists in administering a small dose of a diagnostic radiotracer to the patient’s body, with a short half-life, emitting ionizing radiation in small amounts, and then performing a series of imaging scans.

The PET/CT method is widely used in oncology, enabling the detection, localization and assessment of tumors as well as monitoring the effectiveness of therapy. However, our laboratory also offers PET/CT examinations in cardiology and neurology, which enables a comprehensive assessment of the heart, brain and other organs in the context of lifestyle diseases.

In addition, as one of two labs in the country, we have a highly specialized device for performing positron emission tomography with magnetic resonance (PET/MR). This advanced technology allows us to assess the anatomical structures and metabolic processes in the patient’s body even more precisely. Our qualified team of specialists, including nuclear medicine doctors, conducts qualification before each examination in order to select the optimal examination, ensuring maximum diagnostic benefits and safety for the patient.

We are proud of our reputation as a leader in PET/CT and PET/MR. Our team of highly qualified doctors and medical technologists work with passion and commitment to provide our patients with the best possible care.

We invite you to our diagnostic laboratory, where we focus on precise diagnostics for the health of our patients.

    FAQ

5 steps to get your PET/CT result

  • Step 1

    Contact

Make an appointment for a free qualifying visit:

    phone: 85 500 10 21,

    e-mail: petct@bioskaner.eu,

    in person: Żurawia 71a, Bialystok.

  • Step 2

    Free qualification for the examination

Qualification for your convenience can be done by phone, and our specialists will contact you at the agreed time. You will always be asked to provide the necessary medical documentation.

  • Step 3

Arranging the date of the examination

Patients who are qualified by the doctor for the examination set its date together with the registration. You will be asked to make an advance payment for the purchase of the radiopharmaceutical that will be imported for you.

If you want to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please inform the registration at least 24 hours before the examination, as it cannot be returned or used for another patient.

  • Step 4

    Performing the examination

Patients are scheduled for a specific hour and do not need to wait for the examination longer than necessary. Before administering the radiopharmaceutical, the patient is examined by a doctor.

  • Step 5

    Collect examination results

The examination result is available after a few days. The whole period from the moment of the patient’s decision to receiving the examination results does not exceed 10 days.

APPLICATION OF PET/CT EXAMINATIONS

  • detection and assessment of the malignancy of cancerous tumors based on their metabolic activity and the degree of radiotracer accumulation,
  • imaging of head and neck tumors,
  • diagnosis of lung diseases, including lung tumors and their metastases,
  • epigastric tumors showing increased glucose metabolism,
  • detection of tumors in the lower abdomen, including: liver – hepatocellular carcinoma, bile ducts, liver metastases,
  • bile duct tumors – cancer of the gallbladder, bile ducts,
  • pancreatic cancers,
  • stomach, small intestine and others – stomach cancers, gastrointestinal stromal tumors,
  • large intestine – glucose metabolism is increased in most colorectal cancers,
  • urinary system – diagnosis of prostate cancer,
  • diagnostics, staging and assessment of recurrence of gynecological cancers in women in the pelvic area: ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer,
  • cancers of the musculoskeletal system: assessment of the stage of the disease, diagnosis of metastases/recurrences, assessment of response to treatment,
  • malignant melanoma – the examination enables the detection of metastases (usually subcutaneous, to the bones, liver and brain), due to the metabolic assessment of changes, it is also used to assess the effectiveness of chemotherapy,
  • lymphomas and other haematological diseases – assessment of the stage of the disease, recurrence, selection of the appropriate method of treatment and assessment of response to treatment,
  • searching for the primary tumor focus,
  • inflammatory diseases such as sarcoidosis, inflammation of large vessels, localization of inflammatory foci,
  • assessment of myocardial viability.

CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR PET CT EXAMINATION AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • pregnancy, therefore, patients of childbearing age (i.e. from the first menstruation to a year after the last menstruation) are asked to perform a pregnancy test (available at the pharmacy) 1 day before the examination and to show the result of the examination in the lab on the day of the examination. It is also necessary to sign a statement that the patient applying for the examination is not pregnant. In the case of breast-feeding, it is advisable to stop breastfeeding for 24 hours after administration of the radiotracer.

  • Why should I not eat sugar before the examination?

For best results, blood sugar levels must be low (glucose levels above 160 mg/% are contraindications for examination). If there is too much sugar in the body, the cells are already saturated, they will not absorb the radioactive sugar, the examination will then be of very poor quality and the images will not be diagnostic due to the high background of the surrounding tissues.
  • Can I take antihypertensive drugs on the day of the examination?

Yes, in addition, you should bring a list of medications you are currently taking with you to the examination.
  • Can I eat right after the examination?

Yes, you can eat and drink after the examination, especially remembering about water (about 5 glasses), which helps to flush out the radioactive substance.

The examinations are performed by the LOM SCAN laboratory

PET/CT examinations are carried out by the LOM Scan diagnostic laboratory, run by a company in which majority shareholder is LOMiRT UMB Ltd. Both laboratories, i.e. BioSkaner and LOM Scan, are located on the area of BPNT, ul. Żurawia 71a, Bialystok.
